AI in player protection: what it does and what stays a claim

"Artificial intelligence protects players" is a marketing sentence in 2026. Behind it sit three different things: technology the law requires, voluntary pattern detection, and claims with no evidence. Separating the three is the whole task.

What is mandatory, and therefore exists

Operators with a German licence are bound to a deposit cap of 1,000 EUR per month, and it works across operators through the central activity file LUGAS. Added to that: the OASIS exclusion register, a pause button that closes the account for 24 hours, a maximum stake of 1 EUR per spin on virtual slots, a minimum spin duration of five seconds, and a ban on playing slots and live casino at the same time. None of that is AI; it is a database with rules — which is exactly why it can be checked.

What pattern detection can do

Systems that evaluate session length, stake jumps, night-time play and cancelled withdrawals are common in the industry and described in research. They detect changes in one person’s behaviour over time — not "addiction". What an operator does with the output ranges from a notice window to a forced break; only the latter is a measure.

What stays a claim

Sentences like "our AI recognises problem behaviour earlier than any human" cannot be checked without published validation — there is no public metric to hold them against. Equally unevidenced is the idea that a protection system could "enable" wins: a game’s rate is untouched by it, see payout rates.

What you can check yourself

First: is the operator on the whitelist of the German authority — gluecksspiel-behoerde.de? Second: can a limit be lowered immediately and raised only after a delay? Third: is the pause button reachable without contacting support? Those three answers say more about player protection than any description of an algorithm. The legal frame is in gambling rules in Germany, the psychological side in mindset at the machine, and where the German forms of play come from in German gaming traditions.

For this operator

Which protection features actually run here we could not see: the operator’s site answered HTTP 403 for our region on 14 October 2026, and no German licence is provable in any register. The "Lichibet AI" that adapts to the player, described on this page before, had no source. For the concept itself, there is this overview.

Frequently asked questions

Which protection features are mandatory in Germany?
A cross-operator deposit cap of 1,000 EUR per month via LUGAS, the OASIS exclusion register, a 24-hour pause button, a 1 EUR maximum stake and a five-second minimum per spin on virtual slots.

Can an algorithm detect gambling addiction?
It detects changes in behaviour. That is not a diagnosis, and public validations of such systems are almost non-existent.

What runs at this operator?
Unknown. Its site is blocked for our region, and without a German licence the obligations above do not apply to it anyway.
